Vice President releases Dr. Karan Singh’s book I Believe
4th July, New Delhi: I Believe – A Philosophy for the Global Society, a book authored by Dr. Karan Singh, was formally released today by the Honourable Vice President of India, Dr. Hamid Ansari at a grand function at his residence. Dr. Pavan Verma, Director General Indian Council for Cultural Research, provided an introduction to the book and spoke about the author and the book in glowing terms. The book is the very essence of all that Dr. Karan Singh has experienced in his life and has shaped his beliefs and philosophy. In the book, he talks about the major issues which confront us: our relationships with our self, our community, our country, our planet, and issues such as politics, environment and economics. The book draws upon a rich variety of sources including ancient Hindu scriptures, the Quran, the Bible, the Greek philosophers, and contemporary books and films.
About the Author
Dr. Karan Singh was born on March 9, 1931 and is recognized today as one of India’s foremost thinker and cultural ambassador, a politician, an expert on Hinduism and Vedanta, an educationist and an outstanding orator. Dr Karan Singh truly fits the definition of a philosopher, albeit a modern day philosopher who has his grounding in the traditional but whose horizon and vision is very much contemporary and modern. A firm believer in the value of education, Dr Karan Singh is a PhD from the University of Delhi. He has served the interest of education through the posts he has held as Chancellor of Jammu and Kashmir University and Benaras Hindu University. In 1967 he was inducted into the Union Cabinet and held many different portfolios. He served as India’s ambassador to the United States and has been elected four times to the Lok Sabha and has been a member of the Rajya Sabha since 1996. Currently he is Chairman, Governing Body of the Auroville Foundation and President Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
